Private Pilot Helicopter Training

Your Private Pilot helicopter training is the starting point for both career track pilots and pilots that just want to fly for fun. Once you have your Private Pilot License, you may fly your family and friends around. This helicopter training enables you to fly almost any helicopter with minimal additional training. Private pilots may share flying expenses with their passengers . You may not charge your passengers to fly them around, other than sharing basic costs like fuel.
The minimum flight time for Private Pilots doing their helicopter training for this rating under Part 61 is 40 hours. Part 141 minimum flight training time for your Private Pilot certificate is 35 hours. Ground training under Part 141 is a minimum of 35 hours.
Be aware that the the minimum flight training hours required by the
FAA are seldom enough. Most schools use these hours to quote prices, so we have done the same so that you may
easily compare schools, programs and prices. The actual number of helicopter flight training hours varies by student.
On average, students doing the Private Pilot program need 50-55 hours of flight time. We suggest that you budget for 50-55 hours for your flight training.

The following numbers are based on the FAA minimums and the discounted rates package to give you an idea of costs. We included the Average Cost based on the flight time required by most students for their helicopter training. Please note that if you continue on with your helicopter training and do additional ratings, your proficiency level rises substantially. Many pilots doing the Professional Pilot helicopter training program catch up with FAA minimums during their Commercial training.

We do not require full payment up front for the certificate/rating you choose. You may "pay as you go" if that is your preference. We do, however, offer discounted rates for flight time packages of 25 hours and 50 hours. Pre-payment is required if you wish to purchase a discounted rates package. If you do not use all the hours purchased, a refund will be issued based on flight hours multiplied by full rate.
- $300 per hour Dual Instruction. Payment of $7,500 required up front to purchase this discounted rate for 25 hours.
- $300 per hour Dual Instruction plus All American Helicopters will pay the cost of one written exam. Payment of $15,000 required in advance to purchase this discounted rate for 50 hours.
- $320 per hour Dual Instruction is the "pay as you go" standard rate.
- $50 per hour Ground Instruction.
- $270 per hour Solo.
