Instrument Rating
An Instrument rating teaches you how to fly in limited visibility conditions, using only and relying solely upon the instruments in your aircraft. An Instrument rating is not a license in and of itself. It may be added to a Private or Commercial license. If you are on the career track, we recommend taking your Instrument immediately after your Private. This enables you to apply the hours you build during your Instrument training to the required 150 hours for your Commercial. Most Commercial jobs today require the Instrument rating for safety and Insurance purposes.
The minimum flight time for Instrument Pilots taking their rating under Part 61 is 40 hours. Part 141 minimum flight time for Instrument Pilots is 35 hours. Ground training under Part 141 is a minimum of 30 hours.
Be aware that the the minimum flight hours required by the FAA may not be enough. Most schools use these hours to quote prices, so we have done the same so that you may easily compare schools, programs and prices. The actual number of hours varies by student. On average, students doing the Instrument Rating program need 40 hours of flight time. We suggest that you budget for 40-45 hours. |
